Calendar Career Services Policies & Guidelines • Attendance and Examinations
• Academic Probation at CEIT • Studying System at CEIT • Studying Status at CEIT
• Transferring Students • Graduation at CEIT • Halting or Postponing Study • Codes
of Conduct • Termination from CEIT Attendance and Examinations • Students must attend
all lectures, scientific studies and laboratories. Students who fail to attend at
least 80% of lectures and laboratories will not be permitted to take final examinations.
Students who fail the required attendance margin of 80% will receive a final grade
of (DN) in the course. Excuses are not accepted • Attendance will be recorded from
the beginning of the semester or from the day of adding the course. • Students who
do not attend the final exam in a course will get a zero mark for the final exam
and their grade for course will be calculated according to all other work submitted
for the course (which includes: exams, projects and other academic activities).
If the student furnishes an acceptable reason to the Academic Affairs for not attending
the final exam then the College Council may allow him/her to take a make-up final
exam and, therefore, change his/her grade. • All final exams time length should
not be less than 2 hours and not more than 3 hours length. • The College Council
has the right to form a committee that cooperates with the academic departments
to arrange the final exam activities. The duties of this committee are to review
and submit all grades to the Academic Affairs within 3 days from the date of the
final exam. • The instructor of a course is responsible for preparing the course
exams. In certain cases the College Council with the recommendations of the Chairman
of the Department may assign others to prepare exams. • The Instructor of a course
is responsible for grading the course final exam. Whenever necessary, the Chairman
of the Department may designate one or more of the same specialization to help in
grading the course final exam. Under certain cases, the College Council may designate
others to grade the course final exam. • Whoever grades the final exams is responsible
to record the course grades on the grade program, sign the sheets, get the Departmental
Chairman’s approval, and submit the grades in a closed envelope to the Academic
Affairs. • Students are not to be given more than two major exams in one day unless
permitted by the College Council. • Students who are late to arrive at the final
exam location for thirty minutes or more are not allowed to take that final exam.
• Cheating in exams or not following procedures and policies implemented by CEIT
during exams are things to be punished for by the college according the related
bylaws? • The College Council, when necessary, gives permission to re-grade an exam
during a period not exceeding the beginning of the following semester. • Assessment
of each course is made of 100 points divided as follows: 1- 20 points for the mid
term exam 2- 40 points for final exam 3- 40 points for all other semester activities
which includes homework, quizzes, exams, reports and any additional requirement
such as projects, scientific research, field work and class participation. • Department
Council can permit on the basis of a recommendation from the course instructor for
students who did not complete the requirements of any course to complete it during
the following semester. Those students will receive an incomplete grade that appears
on the transcript as (IC) i.e. INCOMPLETE. IC grade will not affect the term GPA
nor the overall GPA. Students must fulfill the remaining requirements of the course
during the following semester so as to get their grades changed from IC to the revised
grades. If Students fail to fulfill the remaining requirements of the course during
and by the end of final exams period of the following semester then the IC grade
will be changed to (F) i.e. FAIL and will be considered in the accumulated GPA.
• Students taking a course of a research nature that may require more than one semester
to complete will get an (IP) i.e. IN PROGRESS grade in this course. When Students
fulfill the remaining requirements of the course they will receive the earned grade
in the course. If the student could not fulfill remaining requirements of the course
within the allowed period then he or she may be given an IC in this course if the
Department Council (for this course) approves. • Students are allowed to retake
courses with a D grade to improve their GPA. In this case the new grade will be
the counted grade in the GPA while the old grade will stay in record with a letter
(X) i.e. retaken added to it, and it will not count in GPA. • ِِA student who fails
one course or more must register the same course (or courses) again and in this
case the new grade will be counted and the old (F) grade (or grades) will be changed
to (XF). • All courses that involve seminars, presentation, research and practical
or training nature are exempt from all or some of the previously mentioned rules
and regulations. That is according to the College Council’s decision upon recommendations
by the Department Council. The College Council will decide ways to assess such courses.
Academic Probation at CEIT • To continue studying at CEIT, a student must maintain
a GPA of at least 2.00 • If a student's GPA becomes below 2.00 he will receive the
first academic warning and will be put on academic probation for the following semester.
• If a student’s GPA continues declining below 2.00 during the following semester
and his term GPA is also below 2.00, the student will receive the second academic
warning and remain on academic probation for the following semester. • If a student’s
GPA continues declining below 2.00 during the following semester and his term GPA
is also below 2.00 the student will receive the third and last academic warning
and remain on academic probation for the following semester. If a student’s GPA
continues declining, he or she will be dismissed from CBA. A student has the right
to apply to the Departmental Chairman within two weeks of receiving the dismissal
letter for a last chance to improve the term GPA as a step to improve his Cumulative
GPA. The Board of Trustees, upon recommendations by the Departmental Council and
the College Council, may offer the student one more semester to study some course
in order to improve his or her GPA to 2.00 or better. • If a student on academic
probation could achieve a term GPA of 2.00 or better with his CGPA still below 2.00
then he will remain under academic probation for the following term but with the
same academic warning level. However if both his term GPA and CGPA improved to 2.00
and better then he will be removed from the academic probation status completely.
